Benjamin Roberts‐Smith is an esteemed veteran of the Australian Army and a well-respected keynote speaker in the national guest speaker circuit. Ben had a distinguished career in the Australian Army and Special Air Service Regiment. His service includes operational deployments to East Timor, Fiji, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Ben received the Victoria Cross for Australia, the highest award that can be given in the Australian military honours system, He received the honor in 2011 for his courage and valor in action during circumstances of extreme peril in Afghanistan. Ben also received the Medal for Gallantry in 2006, as well as the Commendation for Distinguished Service in 2013. Ben holds the distinction of being the Commonwealth’s most highly decorated serviceman among those who served in Afghanistan.
Ben’s contribution to Australia goes beyond what he did while he served in the military; he is Patron of the White Cloud Foundation, who assist with those who suffer depression; and Wandering Warriors, who support current and ex-servicemen. He is also a National Ambassador for Legacy.
Ben’s post-Armed Forces career has been a busy one. He’s become a leading strategic advisor to government and industry on a wide variety of defence, security and personnel issues. Ben is the Deputy Chair of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council for Veterans Mental Health and is also a member of the Queensland Veterans Advisory Council.
Ben also owns his own consultancy business. He advises clients across a range of sectors within the arenas of corporate culture, strategic restructuring and change management. He has an extensive portfolio of assisting companies during change management processes and of helping industry to reap the benefits of a workplace culture focused on high performance.
Ben holds an Advanced Diploma in Management, Diploma in Government and Diploma in Government (Security) and is studying towards an MBA. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM).
