Mike is a survivor of one of the deadliest diseases on the planet. At the age of 18, he contracted meningococcal septicaemia while on a football trip. His injuries were extensive; he suffered multiple amputations, severe internal injuries as well as the mental trauma of the 3 year ordeal. He has to rebuild every aspect of his life from scratch.
Mike has an incredible amount of natural resilience and an ability to maintain positivity and productivity by focusing on the things he can do and do them extremely well. We must never give up!
Mike's early recovery was boosted by his determination to return to golf, a sport he has always been passionate about. He is playing a better level of golf now, as a double leg amputee, than he was prior to his illness. He recently represented Australia in the World Disabled Golf Championships where he claimed bronze.
Mike also enjoys coaching kids with disabilities. Mike knows what it's like to have the world at your feet one moment and then to have it taken away in a flash.
Mike knows what is required to get the best out of yourself in any situation. He has a practical approach to tackling anything life can dish up, large or small. With mental health issues soaring, Mike believes now more than ever, the importance of strengthening our resilience.
Mike is passionate about adding value to people's lives through the power of his story and the lessons he has learned. Mike is the author of the soon to be launched book, Less is More.
