Just eight days after Trisha and Troy Broadbridge were married, during their honeymoon on Thailand’s Phi Phi Island Troy’s life tragically ended in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. Building on her experience as one of the original ‘Crew’ (young leaders) of the Reach Foundation, Trisha now operates the Reach Broadbridge Fund to honour Troy’s life and the values for which he stood - honesty, integrity, determination, courage and acceptance of difference. Trisha and Troy Broadbridge were married on December 18, 2004. Tragically, Troy (a Melbourne Demons Football Club player) died on their honeymoon just eight days after they were married when the couple were caught on Phi Phi Island in the 2004 Boxing Day Asian tsunami.
Trisha, 24, is one of the Reach Foundation’s original ‘Crew’ (young leaders), and since 2000 has been facilitating and inspiring groups of teenagers in activity based, educational programs, instilling feelings of self-belief and confidence in these young people.
For the last 13 months, Trisha has worked tirelessly to set up the Reach Broadbridge Fund. The Fund has been established to honour the life of Troy Broadbridge and the values for which he stood - honesty, integrity, determination, courage and acceptance of difference.
Reach uses revenue from the Broadbridge Fund to make a significant positive difference in the lives of young people both in Australia and Thailand.
The Reach Broadbridge Fund, along with the Melbourne Football Club, has built an education centre on Phi Phi Island. The education centre is for children whose school was devastated in the Boxing Day Tsunami.
