Olympic Gold

Australia’s first female Winter Olympic gold medallist,Alisa Camplin, famously landed a spectacular triple twisting double somersault at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics – with two broken ankles. Using her renowned mental toughness, Alisa overcame fear and pain to take Olympic Bronze at the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics less than 3 months after her second major knee reconstruction.Alisa has won two Olympic Medals, a World Championships Title, a new World Record, two back to back World Cup Grand Prix Championships and 19 World Cup Podium finishes.

She has achieved this while maintaining a professional career with IBM Australia. She is now in her 15th year with IBM, having lead $200M+ businesses in both Australia and the UK. A contemporary business leader, Alisa is on the Board and Audit Committees of many high profile organisations, including the Australian Sports Commission, Collingwood Football Club and Olympic Winter Institute of Australia.

Alisa  is Chair of the Australian Sports Foundation and the Australian Olympic Committee’s Chef de Mission for the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games team.

Alisa Camplin is an Olympic champion aerial skier who won gold at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. It was the second skiing medal ever won by Australia, and the first won by an Australian woman. She also won the bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

About Alisa

Originally training as a gymnast and sailor, Alisa saw early success winning two Australian National Sailing Titles in the Hobie Cat catamarine class. Inspired by the success of skier Kirsty Marshall, Camplin then turned to skiing at the age of 19.
After a great deal of training, Alisa was involved in a skiing accident shortly before the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and although she was initially told that it was just bruising, doctors in Salt Lake City found that she had fractured both of her ankles. She was advised not to compete but went against the medical advice. During her event, she landed a spectacular triple twisting double somersault.
Alisa was again injured in the lead up to the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006. A serious knee injury in October 2005 led to a second knee reconstruction operation just three months prior to the event. She returned to limited training eleven weeks after the operation, and managed to finish with a bronze medal in her event.
She was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2007.
Since her retirement from skiing, Alisa has been working as an executive with IBM, as well as doing promotional and charity work. She joined the board of the Collingwood Football Club in December 2009, replacing Sally Capp.
Following the tragic death of their first child, Alisa and husband Oliver Warner set up the charity Finnan’s Gift which helps the Royal Children’s Hospital raise money to buy equipment for the treatment of babies with heart defects.

When I took a punt so many months ago to secure Alisa Camplin as our guest speaker, I could not have anticipated the reaction and feedback in having her at the PANDA event. Alisa brought inspiration, warmth, class and humour in a wonderful interview with Matt Tilley. Her candidness about her experiences and challenges were heart-warming and we are so thrilled that she agreed to support our event.!"

"Alisa delivered a very well prepared presentation to the AFL industry about how to achieve the most out of your sport whilst keeping yourself busy, and building skills to transition into life after sport. Alisa' story of advancing her professional career whilst winning Olympic Gold was truly inspirational. Highly recommended!""

"In Alisa's presentation she states that she can't sum herself up in 7 seconds but I think I can do it in just 1... 'WOW!' Alisa's presentation was incredible, inspirational, heart-warming and heart-breaking all at the same time. The discipline and commitment she demonstrated with her training to reach her ultimate goal and own her outcomes was unbelievable; and the humility she showed when sharing her success and a very personal journey left our guests overwhelmed. Thank you Alisa!"

"I just wanted to say that your presentation this morning was amazing. I felt like we all went on a rollercoaster journey of emotions with you - from the lows of being injured through to the ecstatic highs of winning your medals – and then through to the most incredibly honest and heartfelt account of your time with your beautiful son. I go to a lot of these breakfasts and can honestly say that I have never been in a room full of people who would normally answer phones, check messages or get up during the presentations, who sat completely still and captivated by your every word. There was certainly not a dry eye at my table by the time you had finished and I have no doubt this was shared across the rest of the room. Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate you on such a captivating and entertaining presentation – and for having the courage to share your amazing stories with us all."

"I haven’t enjoyed a breakfast talk so much for such a long long time. It was refreshing to have someone like you up there, being real and so passionate. Your ability to engage with people is amazing! I think what you have done for the RCH via Finnan’s gift is just another amazing and inspiring way you have contributed to the community."

"We have had the opportunity to work with many professionals from many industries in our game and the choice to have you represent our brand for our inaugural Better Business program was in short, one of the best business decisions we have made. From the initial briefing meeting, the presentation construction and through to the national program delivery you were an absolute delight to do business with. In my view the delivery of a final presentation for an audience is only just a part of the overall process. Your pragmatic way of thinking, your insights in the lead up to and during the event and of course your engaging personality had our advisers (and our national team) captivated.

I know you put an exceptional amount of effort into our Better Business program session and also painstakingly worked on our subsequent sales team workshop and I wanted to thank you on behalf of all of us here at Asteron Life – your efforts were greatly appreciated. The team continue to talk of the first Better Business program and how your involvement made the event the best ever. "Alisa was outstanding and her message was in tune with our theme "The Winning Edge". Alsia's presentation received rave reviews from our delegates with many saying she was the best ever speaker at a Unigas Conference. She rated 5+ out of 5 on delegate feedback forms."

"The ‘real life’ story from Alisa is both inspirational and compelling by nature. The true grit, determination to succeed, personal sacrifice and humanity of her journey were delivered with humour, pathos, and a conviction that resonated deeply with our audience. If the tears and laughter were any indication of how successful her delivery was, then the I guess the long line of those wanting to meet her personally was not surprising. Alisa ticked every box on our wish list for this important event."
