Larger than Life Rugby Icon

Chris ‘Buddha’ Handy - few names are more synonymous in the world of rugby than this larger than life sporting icon. His rugby career began playing for his home state, Queensland, before going on to earn his stripes with the Wallabies. When he retired from the field, Chris’ exuberant personality fit perfectly behind the microphone, commentating on every World Cup, Super 10 and 12 since 1987. In constant demand as a guest speaker, Chris captivates his audience with endless stories, sharp wit and his unique style.

Chris Handy’s irreverent sense of humour is the first clue that his nickname has nothing to do with the devout life and everything to do with the cheeky (in every sense) reputation and stature that good rugby hookers seem to retain for life.

A devout Queenslander first and foremost, ‘Buddha’ is almost as synonymous with Queensland and rugby as Bundy Rum and XXXX beer. He is a brand ambassador for both. Once an accountant and publican, Buddha has the right occasion for every humorous story in his vast memory.

Infamous for his Queensland parochialism and famous for his passion for Australian Rugby as both a Queenslander and Wallaby player and a commentator, Chris Handy has what every bloke at the party wants – a Bledisloe Cup victory in their career and the ability to tell the story, or any story, very well.

A veteran of the sport, Buddha has complemented his playing career by maintaining and developing a quality group of business partners and relationships. He is heavily involved in community initiatives, a great role model and is a respected advocate for any company he represents.
